Madame Boyer’s perfect restaurant was an essential stop every time we went to Paris. I tried every time to get her to take me to Rungis with her in the morning, but she never quite said yes. I agree anchorbill, it’s not what it was when Ginette ran it, but given how rare traditional French bistros are becoming in Paris, I’m encouraging of all the honest ones that survive.

I have wonderful memories of meals served here by Ginette Boyer. Unfortunately, current ownership has a way to go to measure up in so many ways.

Actually, Ginette did not retire, she died. In spring of 2010, I believe. Her brother ran the restaurant for a brief time during her illness.

"The innocent warm and old-fashioned food most of us crave" is a lovely way of summing up this earnest and promising little restaurant. I'm rooting for them, since this kind of cooking has become so hard to find in Paris outside of private homes. Best, Alec

I am sorry to hear that Ginette had to retire. She was a delightful woman. I remember visiting the restaurant over ten years ago. It must have been the late fall as she proudly paraded around her place with a truffle in a straw basket, entreating us all to smell the wonderful perfume of the fungus. That night I ate alone and enjoyed her wonderful blanquette de veau and tarte tatin for dessert. I hope the new proprietor can continue the innocent warmth and old fashioned food most of us crave (at least those of a certain age) when we are in Paris. It was a perfect first night place.
