Yes, that's the place, and how cool that it's still open! That cooking used to be such a pleasure and a relief from the really awful steam-table junk they served in the cafeteria at Amherst College, although a niece who goes there now says that the food's pretty good. Friends tell me that the Pioneer Valley has become a terrific food region, too. Anyway, thanks for the good news! Best, Alec

I couldn't help but notice your brief mention of Polish cuisine in Hadley- are you, by any chance, referring to Sofia's Praises off Russell That's a regular haunt for me when I'm not in class! It's still kicking and the gulumpkes is still fragrant and delicious. I'll be in Paris for the next six months (thanks, UMass!) if you'd like to catch up about the Berkshires. I found your site from David Lebovitz's blog and am glad to have such comprehensive recommendations.

Wow, the food looks amazing. Great pictures. You can almost smell the aromas. I will definitely save this for my next visit to Paris.

Thanks, John. I think we may be of the same vintage--it was the Divine Miss M, which also had wonderful jacket art. And by all means plan on Yam'Tcha, but remember to book a month in advance. Best, Alec

Great tale, Alec. And don't apologize for playing the Bette Midler over and over. I'll bet it was The Divine Miss M, one of the great solo female albums of all time, almost on a par with Tapestries and ahead of New York Tendaberry. Yam Tcha will certainly be our very short list next time.
